Over 300 Business Leaders attend IoD Economic and Political Briefing Event

News

Economist Jim Power briefed over 300 IoD Ireland members and business leaders at our latest Lunch Bites event, held earlier today at the Alex Hotel, Dublin 2.

Setting the Scene

The event was opened by IoD Ireland CEO Caroline Spillane CDir who welcomed members to the first Lunch Bites event of 2026.  Caroline also took the opportunity to thank our sponsor Diligent, and welcomed Loraine Daly, Senior Field Marketing Manager at Diligent, to the event.

In her opening address, Caroline also drew attention to findings from recent IoD research on Business Confidence carried out at the end of 2025, which highlighted the dynamic and complex landscape in which Irish businesses were operating. While the findings showed a broadly optimistic outlook for 2026, she noted how our members were clear in their call for Government to prioritise regulatory simplification and support Ireland’s global competitiveness.

Navigating a High‑Risk Global Environment Amid Ireland’s Steady Growth

Economist Jim Power delivered a wide‑ranging briefing on the global and domestic economic landscape for 2026. During the event, he reflected on both the global and local elections of 2025, as well as the upcoming elections in 2026, and discussed their implications for business leaders.  Jim also provided a detailed assessment of the global economy and highlighted what current trends mean for businesses operating in Ireland.

The presentation slides from the event are available to IoD Ireland members to view on our website. Please note you must be logged into your member account to view these.
