Last week, the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) announced the winners of the 2025 SEAI Energy Awards. These awards celebrate excellence in pursuit of more affordable and secure energy in a prosperous and resilient economy, particularly those individuals and organisations that demonstrate excellence in the drive for reduced fossil fuel usage, reduced emissions, reduced costs, and a more resilient economy.
This year saw the inaugural 'Warming up the Boardroom' awards being presented to two Chartered Directors representing the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Maura Moore CDir, IoD Ireland Member, and Deputy Chairperson, Governing Authority, NUI Maynooth University, received the award for the Republic of Ireland. As part of Maura's role with NUI Maynooth University, she leads the Board Committee on Finance, HR, and Capital Development Committee (FHRCDC). She leads on the oversight of the Strategic Plan (2023-2028) Implementation and the Board stewardship of the Maynooth University Sustainability Agenda. Under the guidance of FHRCDC and her leadership, Maynooth University will transition to a full standalone Sustainability Statement aligned to Consolidated Financial Statements for reporting in March 2026. This transition was championed at board committee (FHRCDC) and approved by Governing Authority.
Roger Henderson CDir, IoD Northern Ireland Member, and Network Assets and Investment Director, NIE Networks, won the 'Warming Up the Boardroom' award for Northern Ireland. Roger is a member of the Executive Team in Northern Ireland Electricity and led the development and implementation of the new People, Planet, Places Plan 2025–31, a refreshed strategy that enables better transparency through alignment with EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requirements.
These awards were part of an initative between Creative Ireland and the SEAI and were open to Chartered Directors who participated in the Creative Boardroom: Collaborate4Climate Project. The award celebrates excellence in governance and strategy, rewarding directors and organisations that embed urgency and accountability into their sustainability agenda. Recognising that meaningful change requires board-level leadership, IoD Ireland and Creative Boardroom's Collaborate4Climate would like to thank the SEAI for their vision and support in adding a new award category to the 2025 SEAI Awards.
