We are delighted to invite IoD Ireland members to our In-conversation event with Brid Horan CDir. Brid is an Independent Non-Executive Director and Chair with over 30 years' experience in senior executive roles and on boards of public and private sector organisations. The event will be moderated by Dr Terry McWade CDir, IoD Ireland Council Member.
Brid, in conversation with Terry, will share her views and challenges on the governance trends and challenges shaping the future of boards; the important and guiding role of the chair; and the importance of promoting diversity and inclusion across all strands of an organisation, the senior executive team and on the board.

Brid brings a wealth of executive and non-executive experience. She is currently Chair of Nephin Energy Ltd and Non-executive Director of PM Group and Insurance Ireland. Brid was formerly Deputy Chief Executive of ESB, Chancellor Dublin City University and Chair of the Irish Cancer Society. She also held previous non-executive roles including with IDA Ireland, FBD Holdings plc, and the National Pension Reserve Fund. Brid played a key role in promoting gender balance in business leadership as co-founder of 30% Club in Ireland and inaugural Co-Chair of Balance for Better Business, the independent, government-established review group in Ireland focused on improving gender balance on corporate boards and in senior leadership.

Brid is a Chartered Director and Independent Non-Executive Director/Chair with over 30 years' experience in senior executive roles and on boards of public and private sector organisations. She is currently Chair of Nephin Energy Ltd and non-executive director of PM Group and Insurance Ireland. Brid was Deputy Chief Executive ESB until late 2014, former Chancellor Dublin City University and Chair of the Irish Cancer Society. Other previous non-executive experience includes IDA Ireland, FBD Holdings plc, and National Pension Reserve Fund. She was previously Chair of Trustees for Bank of Ireland Staff Pension Fund. Brid is also an Actuary, Fellow Irish Institute of Pension Management and Lifetime Fellow of the Irish Management Institute. Brid also played a key role in promoting gender balance in business leadership as co-founder of 30% Club in Ireland and inaugural Co-Chair of Balance for Better Business.
Dr Terry McWade CDir Director and Council Member, IoD Ireland
Dr Terry McWade CDir is the former CEO of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. He previously held the positions of Chairman, CEO and Co-Founder of Valitacell Ltd which is now part of Beckman Coulter Life Sciences, Deputy CEO in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, CEO Exceptis Technologies, Principle in the Boston Consulting Group (London), CEO (Denmark) and Adjoint Operationnel (Paris) Servier Laboratories Ltd. He is a member of the Judicial Appointments Commission, Chair of Pieta and Board member of the Health Research Board. He is a former Board member of Our Lady’s Hospice and Care Services and Chair of the European Vaccine Initiative and Deputy Chair of the Dublin University Dental Hospital. He is a former Board member of the National Treatment Purchase Fund and the Institute of Bankers. Terry qualified in medicine from Trinity College Dublin and holds an MBA (INSEAD), MSc Healthcare Ethics and Law, Diploma in Child Health and Diploma in Corporate Governance (UCD). He is a Chartered Director of the Institute of Directors.
