Join Kevin McConnell CFA as he details the key areas of financial markets relevant to board and senior executive decision making around investments, managing cash reserves, interest rates and the economy.

This workshop has been designed for: 

  • All Board directors and senior executives seeking to improve their knowledge of the drivers of economic performance, the business environment, capital markets and the investment landscape. All leaders charged with building and protecting their organisations’s wealth.

Kevin will cover the following objectives: 

  • Support participants in understanding financial markets and their impact on business performance, decision making and planning.
  • Support participants in making their own investment decisions.
  • Support boards/senior executives in understanding the real economy, markets and investment options for cash management, pensions and incentivisation.
  • Update participants knowledge and understanding of the implications of organisations of their decisions around investment management.

Section One: Financial markets and their importance to capital raising, valuation, business conditions

  • Understand the asset and investment classes, risk and return in investments and options in controlling risk.

Section Two: The economy, inflation and interest rate cycle

  • Understand the drivers of economic performance, inflation, and the impact of interest rates policy on debt and affordability.

Section Three: Understanding performance

  • Understand corporate performance measures and analysis.

Section Four: Wealth management in a corporate organisation

  • Manage wealth management – corporate decisions on cash management, pensions, investments, building and preserving wealth within the company and personally.

Introducing Kevin McConnell CFA

Over a career spanning over 30 years in capital markets, Kevin has worked extensively as an investment and banking industry expert, advising on Capital, Credit Risk and Strategy. His work covers credit due diligence, stress testing, capital adequacy, and asset quality both as a consultant in the industry and providing academic programs in the banking sector and regulatory system through his association with a range of universities. He works predominately with European and emerging market based banks and regulators, advising on the development and testing of capital resilience across differing economic and capital market scenarios, credit, and IFRS9.

Kevin has worked in a range of senior roles in capital markets which have helped him develop a deep knowledge of both the investment and banking industry, and a critical understanding of market behaviour and its impact on the risk/return relationship for investments in the funds/asset management and banking industry. He has also acted on behalf of a range of international investment groups, most lately in the private equity area, in sourcing and constructing transactions across the banking and investment industries.

Kevin has presented at European Central Bank and European Bank Authority and has delivered expert programs to European and Middle Eastern based regulators on bank capital, credit and IFRS9. He was a member of Committee on Collective Investment Governance (CCIG) of Central Bank of Ireland which supported the development of CP86 for the Irish Funds industry in 2014/2015. He was a member of the Advisory Committee of the Certified Investment Fund Director Institute for seven years, delivering programs in investment management to board directors, and is a Senior Associate of Faculty, Institute of Banking (IOB) Executive Education- Certified Bank Director Program since 2012.

He designed and delivers the Structured Finance/Credit program for the Msc in Finance in Michael Smurfit Business School, University College Dublin, the Graduate Diploma in Alternative Investment for the Institute of Banking (IOB-UCD), and Asset Management on the Msc. in Finance, Trinity College Dublin (TCD) for over a decade. Kevin has also delivered programmes on bank capital, investments and credit, in association with the IOB and Cambridge University. Kevin is a CFA Charterholder since 2004.

Kevin is a Board Director for one of the largest Collateralised Loan Obligation (CLO) originators in Europe and is Chief Executive of GEM Strategic, a specialist bank & asset management consultancy firm, which provides economic/investment advisory services to the international financial services sector.

Places can only be confirmed on receipt of full payment.Cancellations and a full refund will be accepted if received in writing to cpd@iodireland.ie by 5pm on Friday, 17th May 2024. After this date, no refund will be possible, and all fees will be forfeited in the event of a cancellation or non-attendance.
