Maximise board meeting effectiveness. Make every board report count.

Board meetings are crucial for the governance oversight of an organisation. They facilitate accountability, promote transparency, and enable informed decisions that can drive an organisation's success. A key element of this is the quality of the Board Papers.

Maximise board meeting effectiveness and improve the quality of your board papers in this dedicated workshop, Board Reporting: Optimising Board Effectiveness. Led by Nadine Conlon, experienced Group Company Secretary.

This workshop will also explore the pitfalls that can compromise board effectiveness and challenges attendees to critically reflect on the quality of board papers and how they can be improved.

Who is this Workshop for?

  • Chairs.
  • Non-Executive Directors.
  • Executive Directors.
  • Senior Leadership Team members and those reporting into Board.

Why should I book this workshop?

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Critically evaluate the quality of board papers and board packs: Assess whether board information genuinely supports strategic debate, risk oversight, and effective decision-making, rather than compliance, reassurance or excessive information.
  • Design board reporting that enables judgement under uncertainty: Apply practical techniques (signposting, executive summaries, KRIs, narrative framing) to ensure boards can identify trade-offs, test assumptions, and focus on what matters most when decisions are complex or ambiguous.
  • Distinguish clearly between performance, conformance, and assurance in board information: Structure reporting so boards can see immediately for oversight, what requires discussion, and what requires a decision, to align information flow with matters reserved for the board.
  • Strengthen the executive-board interface through better information behaviours: Improve how executive teams collectively shape, challenge, and escalate information to the board to reduce duplication and siloed reporting.

What people are saying about this workshop

“Excellent workshop facilitator with rich experience who listened and responded to the participants needs from the session.”

Workshop Attendee

“Delighted to have attended the Getting Board Information Right workshop. Gained insight into various board structures and how no one style fits all. Importance of being open to review the information shared so it maximises the effectiveness of the board meeting so the Executive Management team share the critical issues and risks, seek ownership of these with the board and gain approval for the roadmap ahead. Plenty to think about!!!”

Matthew Kerrigan, Chief Operating Officer, R&H Hall

“Getting Board information right is critical for all stakeholders and for setting the Board up for success. In my experience not enough thought or time goes into this important area and prompted me to attend. Dr Margaret Cullen provided participants with excellent practical and relevant ways to improve the Boards performance and how to get the information right. Well worth attending.”

Access to Dr Margaret Cullen's deep expertise in this area is invaluable to any current or aspiring INED.”

Siobhan Gormley, Independent Non-executive Director

"As a Non-Executive Director on a number of State Boards I am regularly seeking ways to improve the quality of information provided to the Board by the Executive.
