Navigating Organisations Through a Time of Uncertainty and Change

Sharon Donnery CDir, Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Ireland (CBI), last night addressed an IoD Ireland event for the Chartered Director Community at the Central Bank of Ireland's Dockland Campus in Dublin.

The chartered director community are IoD members who have completed the IoD Certificate and Diploma in Company Direction and, in addition, have obtained the professional accreditation of Chartered Director (CDir) status. The event was held at the Central Bank of Ireland’s Dockland Campus office and was attended by a packed room of over 120 Chartered Directors.

During the event, IoD Ireland President, Imelda Reynolds CDir, acknowledged and thanked Sharon Donnery CDir and the Central Bank of Ireland for hosting the event. She commented on the theme of uncertainty and the role of trust and good governance. Imelda also expressed her deepest sympathy, on behalf of the IoD Council and Executive, on the recent passing of fellow Council member Gary Kennedy. She noted that all at IoD Ireland extended their heartfelt condolences to his family and friends at this terribly sad and difficult time.

Sharon Donnery CDir, Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Ireland, addressed the audience on the theme of ‘Navigating Organisations Through a Time of Uncertainty and Change’, which touched on a number of key themes. These themes included regulation, being open and engaged, the importance of being future focused, and the role of transformation. Ms Donnery also commented on the importance of trust in leadership, and noted the strong focus of the IoD purpose, which is ‘to instil stakeholder trust and confidence in organisations by educating, informing, and supporting directors to lead successfully'. The event also included a panel session with the notable key speakers, who teased out and discussed some important aspects and elements that leaders should be mindful of with regard to leading an organisation in an uncertain environment. The panel included: 

  • Derek Mowlds CDir, Executive Director and Ireland Operations Director, PM Group.
  • Michael Patten CDir, Chief ESG and Corporate Affairs Officer, Glanbia.
  • Glenn Calverley, Director of Strategy and Governance,  the Central Bank of Ireland.

 

The panel was moderated by Caroline Spillane CDir, Chief Executive Officer, IoD Ireland. Sharon Donnery CDir, Deputy Governor, the Central Bank of Ireland, also joined the panel session when questions were opened to the audience.
