Artificial Intelligence in the Boardroom

We are delighted to invite you to our upcoming IoD member event in Cork titled, Artificial Intelligence in the Boardroom. The event will take place from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Matheson LLP, Penrose House, Victorian Quarter, Cork, on Thursday, 9th May 2024.

Organisations in every sector are examining ways to assess the potential opportunities and risks of AI. The role of the director and board is essential in ensuring proper governance and ethical procedures are in place, and relevant AI organisational policies.

Caroline Spillane CDir Chief Executive Officer, IoD Ireland

Caroline Spillane CDir is Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Directors Ireland. She commenced the role in July 2022. Caroline has held several senior leadership roles including most recently as Director General of Engineers Ireland, the all-Ireland professional body for engineers, CEO of the Medical Council of Ireland, the independent statutory regulator of over 25,000 medical practitioners and Assistant National Director of the Health Services Executive. Caroline is an experienced Non-Executive Director serving as a board member of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA), ESB Networks and Irish Manufacturing Research. She is also a member of the Advisory Group to Balance for Better Business, an independent business-led Review Group established by the government to improve gender balance in senior leadership in Ireland. Caroline's qualifications include a BA from UCC and an MA from TUD. She is currently undertaking a Doctoral programme with SETU.

Deirdre Crowley Partner, Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution, Matheson LLP

Deirdre Crowley is a partner in the Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution department in Matheson. Deirdre advises private and public sector clients on a host of privacy, data protection, employment, equality, industrial relations and data protection matters. Deirdre is currently advising many household name companies on their Brexit readiness together with their employer liability and data protection compliance during Covid. A highly sought after conference speaker, Deirdre is regularly invited to speak on data protection and employment law compliance issues by organisations such as the Irish Institute for European Law, the Law Society of Ireland and Legal Island

Ronan Murphy Founder & Executive Chairman, Smarttech247, and member of the AI Advisory Council for the Government of Ireland

Ronan Murphy is an accomplished executive with over 20 years of experience in the tech industry. Ronan is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Smarttech247 Group Plc, a multi-award-winning managed cybersecurity company. Ronan is also the Co-founder of Getvisibility, one of the world's leading AI data governance & security software companies. Recognized for his expertise, Ronan has been honoured with membership in the Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council in Ireland. This council is composed of experts from various fields and is tasked with providing independent advice to the Irish government on AI policy.
