John Smyth

John Smyth

Chartered Director

John Smyth is a corporate governance specialist and a former President of the Institute of Directors, as well as a Chartered Director. He has delivered quality director training courses for companies in Ireland and overseas. Using his broad experience, he has added value to companies through constructive critical contributions at board and committee meetings. 

From 1992 to 2000 he was Group Chief Executive with First National Building Society/First Active plc. He is an independent board member of various organisations including IPB Insurance, Ostia Software Solutions and Department of Education, Northern Ireland where he is Chairman of the Audit Committee. John is also a member of the advisory board of Risk Management International.

John was recently elected inaugural Chairman of the Northern Ireland Civil Service, Independent Non-Executive Director’s Forum for 2019. He is an INED and Audit Committee Chair, an INED and Audit & Risk Committee Chair, at the Department of Finance, Northern Ireland. John is also an independent member of the National Transport Authority Audit & Risk Committee.

IoD workshops are admissible as part of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) CPD Scheme and would count towards “Active” learning. The workshop cost  is €360 ex VAT for IoD members/€405 ex VAT for non-members. 

Places can only be confirmed on receipt of full payment. Cancellations will be accepted if received in writing by Tuesday,7th May 2019. However, there will be a 50% cancellation charge. All fees are forfeited thereafter. Workshop fees are also non-transferrable.
