Finance for Company Directors

This in-class workshop on 'Finance for Company Directors' will provide an understanding of company accounts, evaluating financial performance, and the right questions to ask as a company director.

It will be led by Caroline Kirrane, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder. This workshop is part of the IoD Essentials Workshop Series.

This workshop will cover the below key elements.

Financial Statements

Detailed review of the three main financial statements:

• Income statement (profit and loss account).
• Balance sheet.
• Cash flow statement (including recap on working capital mechanics).

Categories of Performance

Review of the four major categories of performance: profitability, operations, liquidity and solvency.

Corporate Finance

• Fundamentals of corporate finance.
• Understand the basic principles of corporate finance - time value of money, discounted cash flows, Net Present Value and Internal Rate of Return, capital structure decisions, cost of capital.

Case Study

• Use all tools and techniques taught throughout the day to analyse a company and diagnose performance issues.

Caroline Kirrane has over a decade of experience working in financial markets. After completing her undergraduate degree in France, Caroline began her career working in a hedge fund in Paris. She then returned to Dublin, working in US-based proprietary trading firm Susquehanna. She has held positions in Dexia and FinTech start-up Eagle Alpha and has also worked as an economist with the Central Bank of Ireland, advising senior policymakers on financial market developments.

Caroline has an undergraduate degree in European Business and French from Dublin City University. She also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Trinity College Dublin and is a CFA Charterholder.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Places can only be confirmed on receipt of full payment. Cancellations and a full refund will be accepted if received in writing to training@iodireland.ie by 5pm on Thursday, 10th November 2022. After this date, no refund will be possible, and all fees will be forfeited in the event of a cancellation or non-attendance.
