Overview

This in-class workshop 'Advanced Finance for Experienced Company Directors' will provide an in-depth analysis of company accounts, evaluating financial performance, and the right questions to ask as a company director.

It will be led by Caroline Kirrane, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder and is appropriate for company directors who already have a basic understanding of accounting and the three major financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statement).

It will be an opportunity to take a deeper dive into analysing the financial health of an organisation and will be particularly helpful for those who have already attended the on line workshop 'Finance for Company Directors' in the past, or Chartered Directors seeking to refresh their knowledge.

This workshop is part of the IoD Essentials Workshop Series.

This workshop will cover the below key elements:

Financial Statements 

• Key tools for analysing financial statements including common size statements and ratio analysis. 
• Understanding the links between Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statements.
• How to identify financial key success factors and how to choose and apply KPIs that are relevant to your industry.
• Where to focus in the accounts to ensure that financial risks are well managed including margin analysis, balance sheet management and working capital management.
• Key questions to consider as a director when signing off accounts or joining an audit committee

Corporate Finance

• Fundamentals of corporate finance.
• Understand the basic principles of corporate finance - time value of money, discounted cash flows, Net Present Value and Internal Rate of Return, capital structure decisions, cost of capital.

Caroline Kirrane has over a decade of experience working in financial markets. After completing her undergraduate degree in France, Caroline began her career working in a hedge fund in Paris. She then returned to Dublin, working in US-based proprietary trading firm Susquehanna. She has held positions in Dexia and FinTech start-up Eagle Alpha and has also worked as an economist with the Central Bank of Ireland, advising senior policymakers on financial market developments.

Caroline has an undergraduate degree in European Business and French from Dublin City University. She also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Trinity College Dublin and is a CFA Charterholder.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Places can only be confirmed on receipt of full payment. Cancellations and a full refund will be accepted if received in writing to training@iodireland.ie by 5pm on Friday, 29th September 2023. After this date, no refund will be possible, and all fees will be forfeited in the event of a cancellation or non-attendance.
