State Boards Appointments Process Review Due in “Near Future”

News

The review of the State Boards appointments process has been completed and will be made public in the near future, according to Minister Paschal Donohoe TD, Minister for Public Expenditure & Reform, who was today the Guest Speaker at the annual Institute of Directors in Ireland (IoD) Spring Lunch in Dublin.

In his address, the Minister underlined the important role played by the Board in Irish business and said that the IoD plays an important role in supporting and developing Ireland’s business leaders.  “The personal and professional development of your members not only helps Irish businesses grow, but also helps to support the Government.

On the subject of State Boards, the Minister acknowledged the submission made by the IoD and said that the review of the 2014 Guidelines has been completed and that he would share it with the Oireachtas and the public in the near future.  The existing process, which was introduced in 2014, aimed to encourage more women on to State Boards, and already almost 45% of appointees since its introduction have been female.

The annual Institute of Directors’ Spring lunch was held in the InterContinental Hotel in Dublin, and saw over 250 guests hear Minister Donohoe’s views on a range of issues including the Government’s preparations for Brexit, and the Public Sector Standards Bill 2015, which, he said, “aims to significantly enhance the existing framework for identifying, disclosing and managing conflicts of interest and minimising corruption risks.”
