In our next Lunch Bites @ the IoD event, Bobby McDonagh will talk about Brexit developments, including the role and relevance of diplomacy. He will also discuss the implications this may have for the future of Irish, EU and UK politics and diplomacy.
Bobby's wealth of knowledge in diplomacy, Irish-British relations, and the EU, including his former tenure as Irish Ambassador to the UK from 2009-2013, will provide fascinating insights and analysis in this Lunch Bites @ the IoD event.

Bobby McDonagh is a former Irish Ambassador to the UK from 2009 to 2013; Irish Ambassador to Italy from 2013 to 2017; and Ireland’s Permanent Representative to the EU from 2005 to 2009.
Before his retirement in 2018, Bobby was Deputy Secretary General and Director General of the Policy and Communications Division in the Department for Foreign Affairs.
Bobby also previously worked as the Director General at the Department for Foreign Affairs in Dublin, and was the Irish Ambassador to Malaysia. He also worked in the cabinets of two Irish EU Commissioners in Brussels, and as an official of the European Parliament. Bobby has written extensively about EU matters.
Since his retirement in 2018, Bobby has been a newspaper columnist and public commentator, notably on European Union issues. He is currently completing a Diploma in Executive Coaching at the Smurfit Business School in Dublin.
He is married with four children. He was educated at Gonzaga College in Dublin and Balliol College in Oxford where he was President of the Oxford Union.
