What was your first job?
A professional rugby player with Leinster.
What is the best business decision you ever made?
To surround myself with people who are bright and strong enough to both support and challenge me.
What is the most valuable professional lesson you have learnt so far?
Listen & learn…as a trusted advisor both are key attributes to me being able to help and add real value to our clients. Asking the right questions but really listening to the answers so you can learn more about them, their business and their challenges.
What, in your view, is the biggest challenge facing directors in Ireland today?
The increase in responsibility under new corporate governance codes and the increased public scrutiny.
In five words describe your work style.
Flexible, dependable, collaborative, goal orientated (pro rugby background!), communicative.
Who do you look to for inspiration?
A mixture of both sporting and business leaders from Martin Johnson to Ronan Dunne (Group President at Verizon Wireless). Quite often though it will come from those around me daily who do things or say things that have real impact.
What have you gained from your membership with the IoD?
Having retuned from the UK to live in Ireland after 15 years, it has given me a support network to help my transition back to corporate Ireland. Also, I have found it as a good source information to enable me to perform better in my role.
