In our next Lunch Bites @ the IoD webinar, Professor Brigid Laffan, Director of the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, European University Institute, will share her views about the current status of the Brexit trade talks, including what this will mean for the future relationships between the EU and the UK, and between Ireland and the UK.

During the course of the webinar, she will also address what this may mean for Northern Ireland with respect to a potential border between the EU and the UK. 

Please note, attendees will be able to participate in a live Q&A session during the webinar.

Professor Brigid Laffan

Director, Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, European University Institute

Brigid Laffan is Director and Professor at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, an inter-disciplinary research centre at the European University Institute. The Centre’s mission is to contribute to research on the major issues facing contemporary European society. Previously she was Vice-President of UCD and Principal of the College of Human Sciences from 2004 to 2011. 

Professor Laffan is recipient of numerous awards: in 2005 she was elected Member of the Royal Irish Academy and in 2010 received the Ordre nationale du Mérite from the President of the French Republic. Her scholarship has been recognised by the THESEUS Award for Outstanding Research on European Integration in 2012, and the Lifetime Achievement Award for contribution to the development of European Studies in 2014 by the UK Association for Contemporary European Studies (UACES).

Professor Laffan's research focuses on the dynamic of European integration. Recent publications include The Future of the EU (in Michelle Cini and Nieves Pérez-Solórzano Borragán (eds), European Union politics, Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2019, 6th edition, pp. 425-435) and How the EU27 Came to Be (Journal of common market studies, 2019, Vol. 57, No. S1, pp. 13-27).
