Dr. Tom Clonan served as an Irish Army Officer from 1989 to 2000. Whilst completing a PhD on Women in the Irish Armed Forces, his Thesis revealed shockingly high levels of sexual violence, sexual assault and rape within the Defence Forces. As one of Ireland's foremost Whistleblowers, Tom's case is cited by Transparency International, Ireland as a 'text book case' of Whistleblower Reprisal.

Since 2001 he is Security Analyst with the Irish Times and the Journal.ie where he provides in-depth defence and military analysis of fast-moving international events. He also provides expert military and security analysis to RTÉ television and radio, and international broadcasters including the BBC and Sky News. He is currently specialising in the threat posed by the de-stabilisation of the Middle East and the threat of Islamist and Extremist Terrorism in Europe and US.

Captain Tom Clonan has direct experience of armed conflict in Ireland, the Middle East and former Yugoslavia (Bosnia). Author of two best-selling books, Tom is a highly entertaining and insightful speaker with a unique mix of tragic and comic perspectives into war, conflict and the human condition.

His first book, Blood, Sweat and Tears, was published in 2012 by Liberties Press. His second book, Whistleblower, Soldier, Spy was published in 2013.
