Overview

We are delighted to invite you to join our upcoming Lunch Bites @ the IoD webinar with Ambassador of Ireland to the UK Martin Fraser. This webinar will take place from 12:30pm-1:30pm, on Thursday, 30th March 2023. 

In this webinar, Ambassador Fraser will reflect on the 25th Anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, while addressing the vital connections between Ireland and Great Britain. He will also discuss how our shared economic and cultural links can be strengthened and developed. 

We are also delighted to note that this event will include an address from Gordon Milligan, Chair, IoD Northern Ireland.

Ambassador of Ireland to the UK

Martin Fraser is Ambassador of Ireland to the UK. Ambassador Fraser is from Dublin. The Ambassador joined the Civil Service aged 16 and worked in the Department of Social Welfare for 10 years. He later worked in the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Agriculture, before joining the Department of the Taoiseach in 1999. 

Ambassador Fraser served as Secretary General to the Government and Secretary General of the Department of the Taoiseach for over 10 years. In that role, he was closely involved in the response to the global economic crisis, Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as social reforms such as the referendums on marriage equality and the repeal of the Eight Amendment. 

He has been involved in developing British-Irish relations for nearly 20 years, working on the Northern Ireland Peace Process since 2004, as well as the State Visits of Queen Elizabeth II to Ireland and of the Irish President to Britain, and the Decade of Centenaries.

The Ambassador is an avid follower of sport, including football, GAA, rugby, golf and cricket. He follows Liverpool, the Republic of Ireland and the Dubs, and is a regular attendee at games. He is also interested in arts, culture and reading, especially history.

Chair, IoD Northern Ireland

Gordon Milligan is Chair of IoD Northern Ireland and was appointed to the role in April 2018. Gordon is also Chair of the Labour Relations Agency, which he was appointed to in May 2021. Gordon has served on boards within both the private and public sector.

Gordon is also Deputy Chief Executive of Translink. Before joining Translink, Gordon’s previous experience included executive roles within large global organisations including, Bombardier Aerospace, Nortel Networks and Dunbia.

He has an MBA, is a Fellow of IoD, Chartered Fellow of CIPD, and is a Visiting Professor at the Ulster University Business School.
