We are delighted to invite you to join our upcoming in-person Lunch Bites @ the IoD event with Bobby McDonagh, Former Irish Ambassador to the UK and the EU, Media Commentator and Executive Coach, at the Gandon Suite, The Davenport Hotel, Dublin 2, on Thursday, 15th September 2022.  

In this Lunch Bites @ the IoD event, Bobby’s presentation will focus on the current opportunities and challenges facing Ireland’s foreign policy under the title, 'Ireland’s Place Among the Nations 2022'.

Bobby will cover the following three main dimensions of Ireland’s engagement in the world:

  • Irish membership of the European Union, the most important aspect of Ireland’s international engagement.
  • Ireland’s relationship with the United Kingdom at a time of significant turmoil.
  • Ireland’s global role, including the ambition to double Ireland’s global footprint by 2025.

Former Irish Ambassador to the UK and the EU

Bobby McDonagh is a Media Commentator and Executive Coach. Bobby was Ireland’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, the European Union, Italy, and Malaysia. He held a number of other senior positions in the Department of Foreign Affairs, including Deputy Secretary General and EU Director General. He served in the cabinets of two European Commissioners and was an official of the European Parliament.

Bobby has written extensively about the European Union, including Original Sin in a Brave New World – The Paradox of Europe, an account of the negotiation of the Treaty of Amsterdam.

Bobby is now a media commentator and executive coach. He was educated at Gonzaga College SJ, Dublin, and Balliol College, University of Oxford. He was President of the Oxford Union.

Agenda
Registration will open from 12:30pm on Thursday, 15th September. Please note networking and refreshments will commence before the event from 12:30-1:00pm. The presentation will then start at 1:00pm, followed by Q&A and will finish at 2:00pm.
