• A short introduction to the main elements of what Directors and Officers (D&O) Liability Insurance is, including how it works, and an understanding of what the insurance should do.
• An overview of how this insurance should apply to both executive and non-executive directors.
• The legal requirements for directors and the defined circumstances where a director could be sued.
• The sources of possible claims, with examples of claims that have arisen over the last few years.
• Risks that directors face and the key risk areas you should look out for.
• How and why D&O Liability Insurance is something all directors should consider to protect personal assets and highlighting the options that IoD members have in order to secure adequate protection.

Stephen Byrne is a Director at Glennon Insurance, with 40 years’ experience in the insurance industry. This experience includes Johnson & Higgins, Marsh Willis, and, lately, Glennon Insurance. Stephen has been involved in acquiring and managing large commercial accounts and has considerable experience of self insurance programmes and working with captive insurance companies. 
 
Stephen has experience of working with many different industry sectors and he has considerable knowledge of the insurance markets both in Ireland and the UK. He has worked as a Consultant to Ireland's Department of Health in the creation of the Clinical Indemnity Scheme, which replaced Medical Malpractice Insurance in the public sector.
