The Briefing will provide guidance and tips for directors of charity boards on what they need to be aware of to ensure good governance, specific to their role and responsibilities. It will also address the relevant laws and regulations they should be aware of, as well as upcoming charity governance issues.

Áine Myler,

Áine Myler,

CEO, Charities Institute Ireland (CII)

Áine Myler is CEO of the Charities Institute Ireland (CII), a role she has held since January 2022. Áine is responsible for leading the mission and vision of CII, along with the Board, to ensure that the important work of its members and sector has strategic recognition in the economy and society.

Áine is a senior business leader and Chartered Surveyor, with many years of industry and board-level experience. In a previous role, she was the Director General of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI), Ireland’s largest property & construction professional standards and regulatory body.

She also serves as a Director of HAIL Housing Association & ChildVision. She is also a member of the Property Services Regulatory Authority (PSRA).

She is a Fellow of SCSI & RICS, holds a Master’s Degree in Planning & Development Economics from TU Dublin and Professional Diploma in Arbitration from UCD.

Madeleine Delaney,

Madeleine Delaney,

Director of Legal Affairs and Registration, Charities Regulator

Madeleine Delaney is Director of Legal Affairs and Registration at the Charities Regulator, and has held the role since March 2021. Madeleine has responsibility for the Registration function, the Charity Services function and for the provision of legal advice and assistance across the organisation. She is a practicing solicitor and worked for a number of years in private practice before joining the public sector. 

Madeleine’s past experience included working with the Pensions Authority in a legal and compliance role, and most recently she was Head of Legal at the Office of the Ombudsman, (including the Office of the Information Commissioner, and the Standards in Public Office Commission). Madeleine holds an LLB and LLM, postgraduate diplomas in Regulatory Management and in Public Management and has a Masters in Leadership and Strategy.
